Culture and Inclusion

A strong culture and inclusive workplace help firms attract and retain talented people, encourage diverse perspectives and support better decision-making. Combined with high standards of professionalism and accountability, they strengthen governance, improve client outcomes and build long-term trust. As culture and inclusion remain an important area of regulatory focus, firms should continue to embed behaviours that support good outcomes for clients and colleagues.

At PIMFA, fostering an inclusive, equitable, and forward-thinking industry culture is a key strategic focus. Our work in this area includes bringing together members to share best practice and tackle key issues, such as holding a Culture & Inclusion Roundtable, and our flagship initiatives such as the Culture & Inclusion Awards, the Women’s Symposium and our make.it campaign.

We recognise that inclusion is a business imperative and a critical building block for our industry’s talent, growth, and long-term success. Inclusivity doesn’t mean differing expectations, rather, it means ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to contribute, to be heard, and to succeed – even when their voices, language, or perspectives may differ from our own.

Beyond our key focus and initiatives, we continue to work across the industry with numerous partners on various initiatives such as our Authentic Leadership Programme and our Career Masterclasses to inspire, empower and educate while also helping address and tackle barriers in our industry.

We are proud to work with a number of partner organisations including, the Financial Services Skills CommissionChasing the StigmaWomen Societies AllianceLGBT Great, for whom PIMFA’s Chief Executive Liz Field is a member of Project 1000 and and, LGBT Great Ally.

We have also worked closely with CISI on their school leavers programme, along with City Hive and the EY Foundation on their Sustainable Futures programme in wealth management.

Financial Services Skills Commission

Established in 2020, the Financial Services Skills Commission (FSSC) is an employer-led body that brings together industry, government and education to improve skills across UK financial services. Its work supports PIMFA’s culture and inclusion agenda by helping firms develop talent, widen access to careers and build a more skilled, diverse workforce.

AI and Disruptive Technology Report

In May 2026, the FSSC published A Workforce Transformed, an HM Treasury-commissioned report on the impact of AI and other disruptive technologies on financial services. The report highlights the significant skills challenge facing the sector and calls for industry and government to work together to build the workforce needed for the future.
