what is data protection?

The UK’s Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018 sets out the data protection framework in the UK, alongside the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). The UK GDPR and the DPA outline the key principles, rights and obligations for most processing of personal data in the UK and aim to strengthen compliance obligations and sanctions, as well as introducing new rights for data subjects.

Data protection laws are there to ensure that everyone’s data is used properly and fairly. As we live in a data-driven world, understanding the rules around data is increasingly important and our members must ensure they are up to date with data protection rules and remain compliant.
